Bethany Phillips

Representing individuals and businesses for more than twenty-four years.

Bethany Phillips practices in the areas of criminal defense and real estate matters.  In criminal defense, Bethany handles matters in the state and federal courts.  She represents individuals accused of a wide range of offenses including, but not limited to: sexual assault, DUI and motor vehicle offenses, narcotics offenses, and firearms offenses.

Prior to entering private practice in 2002, Bethany was a prosecutor in the Fifth Judicial Circuit in the State of Florida where she prosecuted hundreds of cases.  During her tenure as a prosecutor, Bethany was recruited by the judges in her county to serve as their staff attorney.  In 2003, Bethany returned to Connecticut where she has been engaged in private practice.

Bethany has been appointed by the federal court in Connecticut to serve on the Criminal Justice Act Panel.  In this capacity, she defends individuals accused of committing federal crimes who could not otherwise afford representation on their own. In 2022, she was appointed by the Connecticut District Court judges to serve on the CJA Standing Committee. She also serves as a member of the Connecticut Statewide Grievance Committee.

Bethany has also successfully argued cases in the Appellate and Supreme Courts in Connecticut, one of which resulted in the overturning of a conviction of an individual who was convicted of sexual assault and received a 12 year sentence of incarceration.
